Proofreading is the last stage AFTER copy-editing, but BEFORE a text is ready for publication. Apart from checking a final mock-up or “proof” before it goes off to the publishers, a proofreader will check a manuscript for grammar, spelling, typos and general consistency, picking up any errors which might have been missed previously or to point out issues introduced during the text layout. We also check your contents page, page numbering, footers and headers and chapter titles for consistency.
